There’s no school like old school:

As this is the first Monday Metal post of 2017 I think we should start things off right by listening to a song by the greatest band in history. So we’re going to listen to Aces High by Iron Maiden:

I’m a huge fan of metal and history. Any band that can combine the two well jumps to the top of my list of favorites. Ex Deo has released two fantastic albums about Roman history but, sadly, the bad was on hiatus. But the gods have shown us mortals favor by brining Ex Deo back. Their new album is slated to drop early next year and they’ve released one of the songs, The Rise of Hannibal, last week. I’m happy to say that it kicks ass and if the rest of the album is this good the wait will have been worth it:

It has come to my attention that it’s been several years since the last time I posted a song by Kreator for Monday Metal. With the band about to release a new album I decided it would be a good time to feature them once again. This week’s Monday Metal entry is Gods of Violence, which is the title track for Kreator’s upcoming album:

2016 has been a weird year. Celebrities have been keeling over left and right, Trump somehow managed to win the election, and Metallica has released an album that doesn’t suck. I finally got around to listening to Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. Admittedly, it wasn’t high on my list of albums to listen to. Metallica’s track record as of late has been pretty piss poor. St. Anger was a complete shitfest and Death Magnetic was, at best, mediocre. But Hardwired… to Self-Destruct was, shockingly, quite good. While the album may not be redemption for Metallica is certainly is a huge step in the right direction.

This week we’re going classical, neoclassical. Iron Mask, one of my favorite neoclassical metal bands, released a new album earlier this year and we’re listening to I Don’t Forget, I Don’t Forgive off of that album:
