Monday Metal: Nemesis by Arch Enemy

Do you know what makes anarchism better than statism? Music. Us anarchists have way better music to listen to than statists. Statists get shitty country songs about how awesome the illegal invasions being performed by the United States are. But us anarchists get to listen to amazing metal such as Arch Enemy:

Fighting for freedom is a way better message to get behind than bombing people in the Middle East.

Monday Metal: Romulu by Ex Deo

Since this is the first Monday Metal of 2015 I decided to go with yet another song that brings my love of metal and history together. This week we’re listening to Romulus by Ex Deo. As the name implies it is about Romulus, one of the mythical founds of Rome.

It saddens me that Ex Deo is no longer producing music. A band themed on Roman history is a veritable smörgåsbord of metal material.

End the Year with Metal

This is the last post of 2014. To celebrate the end of the year I think it’s appropriate to look back at how it started. The first Monday Metal entry for 2014 was none other than Amon Amarth. It seems appropriate to close out the year with some Amon Amarth. So let’s raise a rune to the memory of 2014:

When I decided to close this year out with metal I was really hoping I started the year with something good. Glad to see that I did otherwise this entire scheme to not actually write a post would have been in vain.

Monday Metal: I, Caligvla by Ex Deo

Metal, surprisingly to many, is one of the nerdiest genres of music out there. Entire bands are dedicated to writing songs about science fiction, history, and even The Lord of the Rings. This is probably why I love it. As a history nerd and a metal head I really enjoy bands that combine the two (which I generically refer to as history metal).

Last week I came across Ex Deo, a side project by the lead singer of Kataklysm. Sadly on permanent hiatus the band released two albums that focused exclusively on Roman history. The songs I’ve heard from Ex Deo so far are really fucking badass. My favorite is I, Caligvla (tru kvlt spelling):

Monday Metal: Dante’s Inferno by Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody

Are you in the mood for some fucking epic power metal? If not then you’re in the wrong place. For those of you with taste we’re going to be listening to Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody (which is just a fancy name Luca Turilli started to use after splitting from Rhapsody). The song is none other than Dante’s Inferno, which is based on one of the most epic epic poems in history:

I try to shy away from the word “epic” but the Divine Comedy is, in fact, an epic poem so I feel I’m warranted in using the word here (three goddamn times).

Monday Metal: Magic Dragon by Gloryhammer

Are you ready for some nerd metal? If not, too bad, try again next week. For those who like awesome shit we’re going to listen to some Gloryhammer, which has the distinction of being pretty nerdy even for a power metal band. The song is magic dragon. I have no idea if it relates to heroine but considering that Gloryhammer is a metal band it’s not entirely out of the question:
