Monday Metal: Guardians of the King by King Leoric
After last week’s extremely nerdy power metal song I decided to go with something a little more traditional. I’m just kidding, this week’s band is King Leoric who sing songs about epic battles and the game Diablo. With that said they do sound like a more traditional band, something that may have spawned from the ’80’s:
Monday Metal: The Lord of Wolves by Pathfinder
This week’s song demonstrates why power metal would be more appropriately named nerd metal. The Lord of Wolves has everything you need to make a fantasy movie including castles, sorceresses, and a wolf running around killing knights. Needless to say it’s pretty epic:
Monday Metal: Lord of the Blacksmith by Falconer
This song has been in my head lately so you get to listen to it as well. We’re returning to Falconer this week with a song off of their self-titled album:
Monday Metal: Metal Tango by Warlock
We’re going back to 1987 this week with German heavy metal bang Warlock. Warlock released four albums before the lead singer, Doro Pesch, remained the only original member of the band left so she started releasing albums under her name. Effectively, due to Doro’s solo career, Warlock still lives even if the name is defunct. This song comes off of their final album, Triumph of Agony:
Monday Metal: Hail to Odin by Iron Fire
This week is going to be like many previous weeks, there will be power metal and viking:
Monday Metal: Breaking the Law by Judas Priest
This week we’re going more old school with some Judas Priest. I’m sure everybody has heard Break the Law and if you haven’t I feel sorry for you. Not only is it an awesome song but you have to love any music video that involves the band robbing a bank with guitars:
Monday Metal: Merciless Times by Myrath
This week I have some a little different, a metal band from Tunisia. While listening to this is likely to get you added to a terrorist watch list it’s worth it, they have a unique sound that is distinctly metal but also, what I would describe as, traditionally Middle Eastern sounding (Middle Eastern folk metal perhaps). It’s too bad Obama is probably going to drone this band because I’m quite enjoying their music:
Thor’s Wrath
So we just had a thunderstorm roll through that appeared to be nothing less than Thor bringing his hammer down upon the Twin Cities. In the end it ended up being mostly a great light show, at least for the region I live in, but I can certainly understand how so many ancient cultures worshiped various thunder gods. Thunderstorms are impressive and contain great deals of power. It’s not surprising that gods associated with thunderstorms are also popular subjects of awesome metal songs such as Thor by Rebellion:
And Twilight of the Thunder God by Amon Amarth:
OK, I admit it, I was just looking for an excuse to post some awesome metal to go with this storm.
Monday Metal: When All Braves Fail by Iron Mask
At this rate I’ll have to rename this to Power Metal Monday. This week I’m presenting yet another power metal song, this time by the band Iron Mask who sound like they came out of the 1980s:
