Slow Day

This weekend was exceedingly busy so I didn’t get time to write any posts. On the upside I believe I’ve finally tracked down the issue with my laptop that’s been giving me grief for the last several weeks. Let me just say bad random access memory (RAM) modules can manifest themselves in very mysterious ways. Furthermore a RAM module can be bad even if every piece of RAM testing software you’ve thrown at it says otherwise.

To atone for my sins of not posting new material today I leave you with a hilarious tale of a man . It really goes to show how a little determination and vodka can go a long way.

You’ll Get Half… of Nothing

I spent all of yesterday in Holmen, Wisconsin at a three gun tournament. Since I woke up at 07:00 and didn’t get home until 23:00 I didn’t have any time for blogging so you get half of nothing today. On the upside I think I shot fairly well and had a great time.

As a footnote I noticed that the spam filter went full Nazi this weekend and several comments were being held for moderation. I approved them all and made an occult sacrifice to the spam filter gods in the hopes that this won’t happen again. Sorry to everybody who had their comments held over the weekend.

Instead of a Post, By a Man too Busy to Write One

Instead of being a responsible blogger this weekend I decided to attend a three-gun competition in Holmen, Wisconsin. By the time I returned to my home base in the Twin Cities I wanted a shower and some sleep more than I wanted to write blog posts. Needless to say, unless I end up writing something for later today, you’ll have to check back tomorrow for your daily dose of zany agorist gun blog posts.

The Free Ice Cream Machine is Running Low

I’m sorry but the free ice cream machine is running a little low today. I participated in my local basic political organizational unit (BPOU) convention last night and now I’m filled with dread, hopelessness, and rage. Needless to say I can’t find the energy to write anything at the moment so you’ll just have to check back later.

Let me say this: what I witnessed last night was something I’d expect to find in a kindergarten classroom. The people who go to political conventions are children, they show up to fight amongst one another for scraps from the power table of the higher ups, they want a piece of the power and don’t give two shits about anybody else. There will probably be a long rant explaining my sheer distain for political conventions and the people who attend them but I’ll have to wait to write it, the feeling of hopelessness for the future of humanity is just too great right now.

Transferring Domains is Apparently Something Only Geniuses can Accomplish

If you’re reading this then my Dynamic Name System (DNS) changes have finally propagated. Let me tell you that something as simple as a domain name transfer is apparently very difficult to do. Looking at it I can’t imagine where the difficulty is, you simply take the settings from one registrar and copy them to another. Apparently that part is very difficult.

When I first registered this name I did it through Google act as a reseller for eNom and GoDaddy. Basically when you register with Google you get a 50/50 chance on which registrar you’re setup with, I got eNom. Since then I’ve been registering my domain names through Hover, mainly because I far prefer their management interface and have been trying to move my stuff away from Google (nothing really wrong with Google but the amount of control they had over my digital life was scary). The final move was taking this domain and moving it over to Hover where all my other domains rest.

When I’m at work I usually connect to my Virtual Private Network (VPN) server so I have access to my home network. This morning when I tried to connect I kept getting failures and noted that I could access other websites. There were only two real possibilities here, either my server was down or my domain name was fucked up. Doing a quick nslookup showed that it was my domain name, somehow Hover lost all of my settings.

I changed the settings this morning only to be informed by Jeff this evening that the changes still hadn’t propagated (thanks Jeff for brining that to my attention). Apparently logging back into my Hover account and reapplying my settings has worked because the site is back up again, at least it will be once the DNS changes propagate to everybody (Jeff has already informed me that the site is accessible to him so I know things are all finagled correctly this time).

The lesson to be learned from this is that transferring domains from one registrar to another is either more difficult than it appears, Hover’s employees are drinking on the job, or Hover has monkeys working there instead of actual humans.
