Monday Metal: Chosen by Tengri by Mongol

Do you know what I love? Metal. Do you know what else I love? History of the Mongolian Empire. Needless to say when I came across the band Mongol, which predominantly sings about Mongolian history, I was a fan. According to Encyclopedia Metallum the bad actually hails from Canada, which is kind of funny to me because Mongolian history is a theme seldom touched by western bands. Truth be told Mongol is a bit growlier than I usually enjoy but I really like how this song mixes in some clear vocals:

Monday Metal: Calling the Gods by Civilization One

This week we’re going with a power metal band from the heavier side of the spectrum. Civilization One is a fairly new band, founded in 2006, that manages to add in a heavier sound that is common from newer power metal bands. Also harkening back to power metal bands of old it seems that Civilization One has adopted the strategy of waiting forever between album releases (their debut album was released in 2007 and their second album was released in 2012). The band has a pretty good sound to it:

Monday Metal: The Toreador March by Christopher Lee

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve heard about the passing of metal legend Christopher Lee. In addition to being a fencer, actor, and basically everything else that’s awesome Christopher Lee was also the oldest performer in metal. To celebrate his career this week’s Monday Metal will be a song from his final EP, The Toreador March:

Monday Metal: Pilli On Pajusta Tehty by Korpiklaani

Korpiklaani just released their new album, Noita. If you’re a fan of Korpiklaani’s previous works you’ll love the new album. If you found their previous albums to be lackluster I can’t help for your shitty taste in music. Pilli On Pajusta Tehty is my favorite song off of Noita so I’ve chosen is for this week’s Monday Metal. Enjoy:

By the way, Korpiklaani is going to be playing in Minneapolis at Mill City Nights on Sunday. They throw a great concert and I highly recommend going.
