Unbeknownst to me Xandria came up with a new album. Nightfall is one of the songs off of that album and it sounds like almost everything else Xandria has put out (which is a good thing):
As a side note it’s Memorial Day. I doubt anybody is actually reading this being a holiday and all. That being the case I’m just going to take the day off. Check back tomorrow for more updates.
This week I did something slightly odd. I chose a music video primarily because of the imagery in the video. Mind you the song is pretty solid otherwise I wouldn’t have featured it. But this video certainly has a dystopia theme running through it and I’m a big fan of dystopia fiction:
Do you know what I miss? ’80’s hair metal. While we will always have the classics I want more. Fortunately there is Battle Beast. Battle Beast is a band determined to bring back the glory days of ’80’s metal. Every one of the band’s songs sound like it was written back when I was watching ninja turtles duke it would with robot ninjas and giant transforming robots beating each other silly.
I actually had a difficult time selecting a song that I felt best represented the band (which means Battle Beast will certainly be featured in future Monday Metals). Show Me How to Die was the song I finally settled on because it includes a lot of old fashioned ’80’s metal screaming:
I really didn’t know what kind of metal I was in the mood for this week. After some searching I decided to pick a song based primarily on the amount of umlaut it offered. Have a listen to Odins Söhne by Bifröst, a death metal song that offers both umlaut and vikings:
Arch Enemy has released a new song with their new vocalist. Angela Gossow has been swapped out for Alissa White-Gluz of The Agonist fame. Overall I think she fits the band pretty well:
I haven’t posted any Iron Maiden in a while. This week I’ve chosen a song that’s been stuck in my head for a while, The Longest Day. This song is from Maiden’s A Matter of Life and Death album, which is my favorite album:

That’s right, tax season is upon us. To celebrate this most disgusting time of the year I think it’s appropriate to start the week off with Dethharmonic:
Sabaton is working on releasing another album to the joy of power metal fans everywhere. The title is going to be Heroes and it appears to be another war themed album (which is Sabaton’s mainstay). To Hell and Back is one of the songs off of Heroes and I must say that I quite enjoy it:
As a side note the artwork for this album is fucking bad ass.
It’s a sad day for metalheads. Oderus Urungus, the front thing for GWAR, has been reported as dead:
The founder and lead vocalist for the heavy metal band GWAR was found dead in his Virginia home on Sunday, police said.
The body of Dave Brockie, 50 — who performed under the name of “Oderus Urungus” for the absurdly grotesque hardcore band — was found inside his Richmond home shortly before 7 p.m., a police spokeswoman told the Daily News.
Investigators did not immediately suspect foul play, but an autopsy was scheduled to determine a cause of death.
I think most of us are aware that Oderus isn’t dead. He has likely tired of the putrid scum of this planet and left to find something better. Wherever he ends up will be made a better place by the metal he will introduce.
