Welcome to the world of tomorrow! This is the first Monday of 2012 meaning this is the first Monday Metal of the new year. I decided to start the year off with some folk metal in the form of Falconer. While I don’t understand a word of the song the music is still awesome and worth a listen:

Monday Metal: Storytime by Nightwish
Nightwish has released their new album, Imaginarium. After listening to it I can say the album is solid and certainly something to pick up if you’re into symphonic metal. The album was kicked off with the release of a new music video for the song Storytime, which happens to be my favorite off of the album:
Monday Metal: We Drink Your Blood by Powerwolf
I’ve been on one hell of a power metal kick lately and in my search for new lead me to Powerwolf. The thing I noticed instantly was the fact the band members wear corpse paint, which is rare for a power metal band but is a nice touch. Musically there really isn’t anything I dislike about this band but to my ears the vocals really shine. Their vocalist, Karsten Brill, (who appears to use the stage name Attila Dorn) studied classical opera and it really shows in his singing. Even though I’m not a fan of opera (perhaps I’d enjoyed the opera equivalent of an action film, who knows) I generally find operatic male vocals very enjoyable.
Needless to say combining a male opera singer with a power metal band and an organ thrown in for good measure (I love the sound of organs) is just fucking awesome. Don’t take my word for it have a list yourself, just note that if your religiously sensitive this song is probably not for you (in fact the entire Monday Metal series is probably not for you considering the content):
Monday Metal: The Final Solution by Sabaton
This week’s Monday Metal entry is another song by the amazing power metal band Sabaton. I find this week’s song to be an incredibly emotional song, which is rare as I seldom have emotional reactions to music, as the lyrics deal with the Holocaust. The video contains photographs from Nazi concentration camps, which are quite disturbing so be advised. Either way it’s a great song that expresses the horrible toll inflicted upon those shipped to the Nazi concentration camps. I admit that this song is a rather depressing way to start off the week but I also believe a great injustice is served when we fail to remember the horrible toll inflicted upon our race by our race:
Monday Metal: Third Immortal by Battlelore
I fully admit that I’m not a fan of J. R. R. Tolkien’s fiction. It’s not that I think his fiction is bad, I’m just not big into the fantasy genre. With that said I am a big fan of the undertones in much of his work regarding the dangers of politics. You’re probably wondering why discussion of Tolkien is appearing in a Monday Metal post. The answer is quite simple, this week’s entry is by the band Battlelore. All the lyrics for Battlelore’s music is inspired by Tolkien’s Middle-Earth. While I’m not familiar with the fiction I really dig the band and their music. Stand up and bang your head to some fucking great metal:
Monday Metal: Battle Metal by Turisas
As I’ve been reading up on the governing system of medieval Iceland you can guess this week’s Monday Metal is going to feature some good old viking metal. Here’s Battle Metal by Turisas:
Monday Metal: Battlefield by Blind Guardian
You know what’s awesome? Power metal! And few do power metal as well as the Europeans. Sit back and listen to Battlefield from one of the best German power metal bands out there, Blind Guardian:
Monday Metal: Deliver Us by In Flames
I have no grand justification for selecting this week’s song, it just happened to be a song I liked that was playing on Pandora at the time I wrote this post. Sit back and enjoy Deliver Us by In Flames:
Monday Metal: White Death by Sabaton
I found something extremely awesome for this week’s Monday Metal entry. When the Soviet Union invaded Finland a total bad ass by the name of Simo Häyhä decided he wasn’t all that thrilled by the Soviet’s attempt to overtake his country and set out to inform them of his displeasure. By the end of the Winter War Simo Häyhä, using a modified Mosin Nagant rifle and a Suomi KP/-31, sent the Soviet military a message by knocking off at least 505 of their soldiers.
While the Soviets managed to inflict a severe wound against Simo, by sending a round through his face, he recovered and lived to a ripe old age of 96. To paraphrase one of my friends, Simo Häyhä and death metal are why nobody wants to fuck with Finland. A great power metal band by the name of Sabaton wrote a song about Simo Häyhä titled White Death which is this week’s Monday Metal entry:
Monday Metal: Halloween by Helloween
Today is Halloween and I’ve found a very fitting song to celebrate the holiday. Sit back and listen to Halloween by Helloween:
