Don’t Drive a Truck in Los Angeles

Driving a truck in Los Angeles has become a real hazard:

David Perdue was on his way to sneak in some surfing before work Thursday morning when police flagged him down. They asked who he was and where he was headed, then sent him on his way.

Seconds later, Perdue’s attorney said, a Torrance police cruiser slammed into his pickup and officers opened fire; none of the bullets struck Perdue.

His pickup, police later explained, matched the description of the one belonging to Christopher Jordan Dorner — the ex-cop who has evaded authorities after allegedly killing three and wounding two more. But the pickups were different makes and colors. And Perdue looks nothing like Dorner: He’s several inches shorter and about a hundred pounds lighter. And Perdue is white; Dorner is black.

It’s a damned good thing that the police are unable to hit their target, otherwise Mr. Perdue would be a dead man now. What makes matters worse is that this is the second time the Los Angeles Police have unloaded on a random truck since their manhunt began. Perhaps the police believe the fastest way to convince Dorner to turn himself in is to injure or kill innocent individuals. That strategy may work if you’re trying to appeal to somebody’s humanity but recent developments have lead me to believe the Los Angeles Police Department disqualifies applicants who display any real humanity.

I think it goes without saying that the likelihood of these officers being prosecuted for assault, attempted murder, or even reckless endangerment hovers somewhere between zilch and nada. Yet these are the people gun control advocates believe to be responsible enough to carry firearms.

What Happens When You Call 911 in Chicago

What Happens When You Call 911 in Chicago? Nothing:

With aldermen bracing for the political fallout, Chicago is implementing a dramatic change in 911 dispatch to free the equivalent of 44 police officers a day to respond to the most serious crimes.

As of Sunday, police officers are no longer responding in person to reports of a vehicle theft, garage burglary, or crime where the victim is “safe, secure and not in need of medical attention” and the offender is “not on the scene and not expected to return immediately.”

Instead, those 911 calls are being transferred to the Chicago Police Department’s Alternate Response Section, staffed by officers on light duty. Police reports will be taken over the phone. If necessary, evidence technicians will be assigned later.

The best part about this is determining whether a victim is “safe, secure, and not in need of medical attention,” is at the sole discretion of the 911 operator. This, above anything else, should demonstrate the fact that police do not exist for your protection, they exist as expropriators for the state. I’m sure the Chicago Police Department (CPD) will still find the manpower to write citations, issue permits, and confiscate property from individuals who the CPD claim may be involved in a drug crime. Oh, and denizens of Chicago will still be expected to pay their taxes to fund the CPD.

Obama Dismisses Envoy Tasked with Shutting Down Guantanamo Bay

Obviously Obama is taking his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center very seriously. He’s taking his promis so seriously that he’s dismissed the envoy tasked with shutting down Gitmo:

The State Department has reassigned its special envoy for closing the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in another step away from one of President Barack Obama’s first campaign promises.

Ambassador Daniel Fried is starting this week as the department’s sanctions coordinator, according to an internal notice, focusing on governments like Iran and Syria.

And no one is replacing Fried as lead diplomat to persuade countries to resettle Guantanamo inmates approved for release. Instead, those responsibilities will now transfer to the department’s legal office.

The only thing I miss about George W. Bush’s presidency is the fact that self-proclaimed Democrats were anti-war. Now that their man is in power they seem to be entirely accepting of torture, detainment without trial, and everything else they claimed to oppose during Bush’s reign.

A List of Children Murdered by Drone Strikes Personally Ordered by Obama

Regarding gun control Obama said if it saves one child’s life it’s worth it. This is a very odd thing for Obama to say since he has personally ordered drones strikes that have lead to the death of over 150 children. The Bureau of Investigative Journalism put together a list of names of children killed by drone strikes that Obama admitted to personally ordering:

A tip of the hat goes to Zerg539 for sending me this story via Twitter.

Let this list sink in and then decide for yourself whether Obama gives a damn about the lives of children.

It’s Because He’s the King

The New York Times surprised me today by asking a relevant question, “Who Says You Can Kill Americans, Mr. President?” The article opens by explaining:

PRESIDENT OBAMA has refused to tell Congress or the American people why he believes the Constitution gives, or fails to deny, him the authority to secretly target and kill American citizens who he suspects are involved in terrorist activities overseas. So far he has killed three that we know of.

Presidents had never before, to our knowledge, targeted specific Americans for military strikes. There are no court decisions that tell us if he is acting lawfully. Mr. Obama tells us not to worry, though, because his lawyers say it is fine, because experts guide the decisions and because his advisers have set up a careful process to help him decide whom he should kill.

He must think we should be relieved.

The three Americans known to have been killed, in two drone strikes in Yemen in the fall of 2011, are Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim cleric who was born in New Mexico; Samir Khan, a naturalized American citizen who had lived in New York and North Carolina, and was killed alongside Mr. Awlaki; and, in a strike two weeks later, Mr. Awlaki’s 16-year-old son, Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, who was born in Colorado.

Mr. Obama, regardless of the fairy tales he told everybody about opposing war, has been one of the most dangerous warmongers of our time. He continued the war in Iraq (which is still ongoing), ramped up the war in Pakistan, got American involved in a war in Libya (even though Gaddafi was previously awarded for advancing human rights in the region), has failed to wrap up the war in Afghanistan (he claims we’re leaving earlier than expected, but he’ll probably pull another Iraq and replace our forces with mercenaries), has ordered several bombings in Yemen, and involved this country in other scattered conflicts around the world. On top of engaging this country in numerous wars Mr. Obama has also ordered the assassination of American citizens, making him the first president to publicly do so.

What gives him such powers? We haven’t a clue because he refuses to even provide his justification. At the very least it would be nice to know why he thinks he can do these things. In all likelihood his justification would be something along the lines of “I’m the king so I get to kill whoever I want. Now get out of my sight before I have you executed, serf.”

The CIA Accused to Making Torture Sound Like a Valuable Tool in Information Gathering

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) apparently lied to the producers of Zero Dark Thirty by claiming torture was a valuable tool in gathering the whereabouts of Osama bin Lauden:

Lawmakers accused the CIA of misleading the makers of the Osama bin Laden raid film “Zero Dark Thirty” by allegedly telling them that harsh interrogation methods helped track down the terrorist mastermind.

The film shows waterboarding and similar techniques as important, if not key, to finding bin Laden in Pakistan, where he was killed by Navy SEALs in 2011.

A Senate Intelligence Committee investigation into the CIA’s detainee program found that such methods produced no useful intelligence.

This shouldn’t surprise anybody. The CIA is one of the most frightening organizations that has ever existed. We’re talking about the same organization that experimented on unwitting United States and Canadian civilians by administrating mind altering drugs in the hope of developed a truth serum. The CIA likely wanted to make torture sound like a valuable tool in the hopes that it would convince a majority of Americans to support the heinous act. In true torture is unlikely to reap useful information because a victim will try to say whatever he believes his torturers want to hear in order to make the pain stop. Torture is a great tool to use when you want an innocent person to confess to a crime but it isn’t a reliable method of gathering reliable information.

New York Punishing Those Who Suffered Storm Damage

You just catch any breaks in New York. First superstorm Sandy comes rolling though and destroys a great deal of property and then the state comes rolling through punishing people fro suffering storm damage:

Residents in one Queens neighborhood are crying foul after they were written up for failing to clean up the city’s own mess. It is yet another new complication in life after Superstorm Sandy.

Rosanne and Joe Cavaliere are still trying to clean up from the hurricane.

They have branches through their roof, busted front windows, and, to add insult to injury, they recently received a citation notice from the city.

Apparently denizens of New York are supposed to have cleaned up all the damage by now. What’s even funnier is the state’s excuse for issuing these citations:

The Department of Buildings said the citation is a mere formality. It’s a way to keep track of all downed trees.

That makes sense. The only way the Department of Buildings can keep track of all the fallen trees is to issue citations. There is no way they could have a team going around New York with tablets and use and application tied to Google Maps API to mark locations where fallen trees have been sighted. While the Department of Buildings has officially stated that the issued citations carry no monetary penalties it is likely some other penalties will be tied to those citations at a future date (for example, a citation against the property may appear when the current homeowner tries to sell the house and cause unnecessary headaches).

Why Nobody Likes the Republican Party

Let’s face it, nobody likes the Republican Party. Even advocates in the Republican Party seems to be dissatisfied with their party as demonstrated by the fact that less people showed up to the polls this year than in 2008. There’s a reason for this. First of all the Republican Party seems to have a big problem with their endorsed candidates publicly saying incredibly offensive statements. If that wasn’t enough now several House Republicans are asking the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to demand Twitter begin censoring content:

Seven House Republicans asked the FBI in September to demand that Twitter take down the accounts of U.S.-designated terrorist groups, such as Hamas, Hezbollah and Somalia’s al Shabaab. The letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller was spearheaded by Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas), who said Wednesday that the recent events vindicated the request.

“Allowing foreign terrorist organizations like Hamas to operate on Twitter is enabling the enemy,” Poe said in an e-mailed statement to The Hill. “Failure to block access arms them with the ability to freely spread their violent propaganda and mobilize in their War on Israel.

Apparently the Republican Party has no interest in even feigning support for free speech anymore and are sicking their dogs on companies that allow individuals to express their beliefs and ideas. How can anybody be surprised the Republican Party has failed to perform in recent elections? Members of that party seem to be working overtime to make sure everybody hates them.

Meet Our Glorious Allies

The number of United States allies in the Middle East is depressingly low. This likely has something to do with the country’s rampant manipulations, assassinations, and outright wars in the region. Often American propaganda likes to point out the supposed human rights violations being performed by countries not on its allies list. One of the most common criticisms brought up by the United States against countries such as Syria, Iran, and Iraq are the way woman are treated in those countries. In general women’s rights have been going backwards in the Middle East for a good part of the last century. However America pointing out these criticisms about its enemies is rather hypocritical since its allies are just as bad, if not worse:

Denied the right to travel without consent from their male guardians and banned from driving, women in Saudi Arabia are now monitored by an electronic system that tracks any cross-border movements.

Since last week, Saudi women’s male guardians began receiving text messages on their phones informing them when women under their custody leave the country, even if they are travelling together.

[…]

Women are not allowed to leave the kingdom without permission from their male guardian, who must give his consent by signing what is known as the “yellow sheet” at the airport or border.

Women in Saudia Arabia, a country America proudly calls its ally, are treated like property. They have almost no rights and the Saudi Arabian government puts a great deal of money, time, and effort into keeping women suppressed. Now male guardians are being informed whenever “their” women leave the country. While this news is likely to surprise few it’s still important to point out because women’s rights is often used as a justification for America’s wars in the Middle East. If violating women’s rights is justification for war then the United States must break off its alliance with Saudi Arabia.

The State Will Rob Anybody

It doesn’t matter to the state if you’re black or white, rich or poor, young or old they will rob you:

An anti-piracy company has found itself in the middle of a huge controversy. CIAPC, the company that had The Pirate Bay blocked by ISPs in Finland, tracked an alleged file-sharer and demanded a cash settlement. However, the Internet account holder refused to pay which escalated things to an unprecedented level. In response, this week police raided the home of the 9-year-old suspect and confiscated her Winnie the Pooh laptop.

That’s right, the state has confiscated a 9 year-old girl’s Winnie the Pooh laptop because she was suspected of piracy. I doubt a 9 year-old even knows what online piracy is let alone what intellectual property laws are.
