Are you ready for some German power metal? If you’re not then you’re on the wrong page. This week we’re going to listen to the new song from Orden Ogan. It’s also accompanied by a cool music video that’s a bit on the creepy side (which is what one should expect from Germans):

Monday Metal: I, Caligvla by Ex Deo
Metal, surprisingly to many, is one of the nerdiest genres of music out there. Entire bands are dedicated to writing songs about science fiction, history, and even The Lord of the Rings. This is probably why I love it. As a history nerd and a metal head I really enjoy bands that combine the two (which I generically refer to as history metal).
Last week I came across Ex Deo, a side project by the lead singer of Kataklysm. Sadly on permanent hiatus the band released two albums that focused exclusively on Roman history. The songs I’ve heard from Ex Deo so far are really fucking badass. My favorite is I, Caligvla (tru kvlt spelling):
Monday Metal: Six Times Dead by Primal Fear
Are you ready for zee Germans? This week I’m picking something from Primal Fear. If I have to justify this selection to you then you’re probably not the target audience of Monday Metal (because you have an inferior taste in music):
Monday Metal: Dante’s Inferno by Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody
Are you in the mood for some fucking epic power metal? If not then you’re in the wrong place. For those of you with taste we’re going to be listening to Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody (which is just a fancy name Luca Turilli started to use after splitting from Rhapsody). The song is none other than Dante’s Inferno, which is based on one of the most epic epic poems in history:
I try to shy away from the word “epic” but the Divine Comedy is, in fact, an epic poem so I feel I’m warranted in using the word here (three goddamn times).
Ferguson Goes About as Expected
The grand jury decided not to indite Darren Wilson to the surprise of nobody (what with Mr. Wilson having that magical liability deflecting badge). Also surprising nobody is the reaction, which involves a whole lot of civil unrest. I don’t have much to say on this that I haven’t already. When you have a small handful of people holding a monopoly on “justice” few proles are going to take it seriously.
Anyways this kind of new always puts me in an Arch Enemy mood so here you go:
Not that I’m ever not in an Arch Enemy mood.
Monday Metal: Magic Dragon by Gloryhammer
Are you ready for some nerd metal? If not, too bad, try again next week. For those who like awesome shit we’re going to listen to some Gloryhammer, which has the distinction of being pretty nerdy even for a power metal band. The song is magic dragon. I have no idea if it relates to heroine but considering that Gloryhammer is a metal band it’s not entirely out of the question:
Monday Metal: Dying For An Angel by Avantasia
Are you in the mood for some power metal? If yes, stick around; if not, reconsider your life. This week we’re going to listen to a song by Avantaisa, a project headed by Tobias Sammet from Edguy:
Monday Metal: Unleashed by Epica
I didn’t really plan for this week’s Monday Metal so you get to listen to the last song that came up on my iPhone. As it turns out I was busy this weekend since my sister got married and I officiated the wedding. Check back tomorrow, maybe I’ll have something new by then.
Monday Metal: In Paradisum by Symfonia
Symfonia was power metal band that didn’t last long. Unfortunately it recorded one album and then the band fell apart. But it was a pretty badass album if I do say so myself. The following is the title track from the band’s one and only album, In Paradisum:
Monday Metal: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son by Iron Maiden
We’re going to start the week with a song from the greatest metal band of all time (objectively true, if you disagree you’re wrong), Iron Maiden. I’ve had Seventh Son of a Seventh Son stuck in my head for a bit so that’s this week’s Monday Metal entry:
