It’s Monday morning meaning it’s time for another installment of Monday Metal. This week features of Finish power metal band by the name of Anthriel. Anthriel’s music is the standard power metal affair meaning the lyrics revolve around fantasy and features plenty of synthesizer. Enjoy:
Sunday night Station 4 hosted an absolutely awesome concert featuring Varg, Wintersun, and Eluveitie. In all honesty Eluveitie is the only band on that list that I listen to regularly but I enjoy a lot of metal live that I don’t generally enjoy listening to otherwise.
As expected Eluveitie did a bang up job. Instead of playing a smattering of songs from their various albums they played the entire Helvetios album. Since Helvetios was a concept album revolving around the Gallic Wars this approach made a great deal of sense. After playing through all the songs on Helvetios they also payed a handful of songs from other albums including Inis Mona. Because of the weather I arrived to the concert late and missed most of Varg’s act but did catch Wintersun, who did a pretty decent job.
In celebration of my first time seeing Eluveitie live this weeks’ Monday Metal entry will be featuring one of their songs and a song by Varg and Wintersun thrown in for good measure. First up is Uis Elveti by Eluveitie:
Next is Guten Tag by Varg (admittedly I don’t generally listen to this type of metal but the band was pretty entertaining live):
Finally I’m going to close this week’s Monday Metal with Starchild by Wintersun:
This week we’re doing something slightly different and traveling to the Middle East. Orphaned Land is a band that hails from Israel. I would classify the band as a combination of death and folk metal but they’re hard to categorize in all honesty. But don’t take my word for it, listen to it yourself:
Although a majority of the metal I post on this site falls under the categories of power and folk metal I will always have a soft spot in my heart for good old ’80’s style metal. Grand Magus is a band that I haven’t heard of before but has been around since 1996. Their music leads me to believe they were created a decade too late. Sit back and enjoy some old school sounding metal:
Insomnium is a band I never heard before Monday night’s Epica concert. They’re a melodic death metal band from Finland and were enjoyable in concert (even if I only caught the last half of their act):
Enough of this depressing political drivel, I want to talk about something positive. Last night I attended the Epica concert at Station 4. What’s not to love about a concert that delivers both pirate metal via Alestorm and symphonic metal via Epica? Nothing, that’s what!
I came a bit late, catching who I believe was Insomnium in the middle of their act, which was fortunate because I really enjoyed what I heard and will likely pursue their music in more detail. During Alestorm I had the pleasure of rocking out with a couple in their mid 40’s. The most I can do is hope that I’ll be able to rock out as hard as those two when I’m their age. I also met a random gun guy. He introduced himself to me after noticing my Crossbreed holster (I conceal well enough to prevent non-gunnies from seeing my gun but poor enough that gunnies will notice I’m carrying). We ha a nice discussion about firearms between Alestorm and Epica’s acts. The floor was packed and people were going nuts during the entire show, which was good to see. Overall it was another great concert and reaffirmed my love for metal and the community that has formed around it.
If you ever have a chance to see either Alestorm or Epica in concert go for it. They both put on great shows and know how to entertain audiences.
It’s Monday morning and that means it’s time for another edition of Monday Metal. This week we’re listening to a power metal song titled Holier Than Thou by Burning Point:
