What I Did This Weekend

Yeah I usually don’t waste time posting about my personal life on this site because I realize nobody gives two shits. With that said I believe I did do something relevant to the interests of my readers; I took a new person shooting.

A friend and me took another friend for her first trip to the range. Even though the conditions were less than ideal (it was cold, wet, and we only had the 50 yard range available to us which isn’t a good range for your first time shooting) she did very well and enjoyed herself. In fact she said she wants to get a gun now.

Thanks Nicole for joining Brian and me and being and awesome first-time shooter.

This is why we win ladies and gentlemen, because range trips are fun and “let’s sit around and talk about banning guns” parties are lame and boring.

Just Doing Their Job

It often surprises me when anti-gunners claim us mere civilians shouldn’t be allowed to carry firearms because we lack the skill and training possessed by the police. Why does this argument surprise me? Because most police officers receive lackluster training with firearms which makes shit like this happen:

Sherronda Aycox was devastated over the loss of her 8-month old blue pit bull Capone, and for what she and her neighbors believe was dangerous and irresponsible behavior by Camden Police.

Aycox says Capone darted out of the partially opened door and toward the officers several houses down, who, according to residents, shot and killed the dog.

Aycox says police investigators told her 33 rounds were fired.

It took the police 33 rounds to hit a dog. I guess this is why the Brady Campaign believes they need 33-round magazines while you and I don’t, it appears to be an attempt to compensate for the polices’ apparent lack of training. The problem with being inaccurate with a firearm in a populated area is the fact those stray bullets have to go somewhere:

The dog was hit and fell in one area, but the bullets sprayed elsewhere, shooting out the window of a van that several women were getting ready to get into. The women say there were children everywhere.

Neighbors say several other vehicles were hit, and the bullets pierced a nearby home, hitting a window and a wall inside.

In this case they went into home and vehicles. It sounds to me like those officers need to be fired and the remainder of the staff should be taking lessons on handling a firearm in a high stress situation.

The Difference Between Rifle and Pistol Powder

What’s the difference between pistol and rifle powder? It’s the difference between having a nice working AR-15 and one that is blown to Hell and back again. The shooter was lucky and ended up walking away from this with all his digits still firmly attached to his hands which are still firmly attached to his arms.

Reloading can be dangerous if you aren’t giving 100% of your attention to what you’re doing. It never hurts to triple check everything before you crank out some ammunition.

Watch the Anti-Gunners Complain About This

I’ve mentioned before about the rabidness of many anti-gunner’s zealous hatred of guns that lead to them being pissed off at DPMS and Smith and Wesson for donating money to the Cancer Research Center. I also made fun of one anti-gunner’s arguments because I’m an asshole like that. Now The Firearm Blog as brought up the fact that Federal has released pink shotgun shells. A portion of the proceeds from these shells are going donated to the cause of finding a cure for breast cancer.

So anti-gunners, are you readying your complains yet? Feel free to step up to the plate and explain why donating the cancer research is good unless gun companies do it.

Suppressed Ranch Hand

File this under things that are bad ass. Yes that is nothing less than a Rossi Ranch Hand (you know that really short lever-action rifle that’s legally a pistol) with an attached suppressor. Why would somebody do this? Why wouldn’t somebody do it is my question (unless they live in Minnesota then I know why they wouldn’t do it, stupid law banning suppressors)!

Time For the ATF to Ban Staple Guns

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) went on a ban spree a while back because, according to them and nobody else, certain Airsoft rifles could be converted into real firearms. The ATF wrote up a report on this which coincided with their report on various unicorn sightings that their agents have observed over the years.

Well the ATF is going to shit bricks when they see this video explaining how to convert a regular staple gun into a 12 gauge shotgun. I’m kind of sad honestly, I use my stable gun a lot and there will be a void in my life when the ATF bans it for being easily converted into a destructive device.

So Many Buzz Words It Has to Be Awesome

I work in an industry where buzzwords are the bread and butter of marketing people. All computer technology ultimately comes down to the buzzwords and whether or not there are enough of them. Needless to say when something awesome like a grenade launcher is combined with enough buzzwords to start a marketing campaign for a software solution I get a bit curious:

Combining a GPS, laser rangefinder and computer, the new Mk19 FCS (Fire Control System) enables gunners to put the first round on the target, at extreme ranges (over 2,000 meters). The FCS can also fire an accurate pattern of 40mm grenades at those same ranges.

GPS, lasers, and grenades all in one package! It’s amazing what our advances in technology can lead us to produce.

A tip of the old hat goes to The Firearm Blog for unveiling this amazing piece of technology.

Happy 100th Birthday 1911

Today is the big day. It’s been one century since the United States military adopted the M1911. The 1911 was quite the revolution in pistol designs for its day. Very few tools can last 100 years with little need for redesign but the 1911 pistol is one of those few.

Although I could give a long list of things that are great about the 1911 you’ve likely heard them all before on other gun sites. Suffice it to say the pistol is still pure awesome 100 years after it’s adoption by the military. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 1911 is still around in another 100 years.

So here is to 100 years of excellence and the hope of 100 more.
