Just a reminder to everybody that today is the day oral arguments will be heard in the McDonald vs. Chicago case. I don’t have much more to say on this besides go get them Mr. Gura!

You’re Government Never Loved You
Here is an interesting story I came across directly out of the government hates you category. Apparently during Prohibition people were still drinking alcohol. That’s right even though it was illegal people were still consuming it. It’s almost as if banning a substance doesn’t stop people from obtaining it. Well the consumption rate was so high the federal government decided to try something new:
Frustrated that people continued to consume so much alcohol even after it was banned, federal officials had decided to try a different kind of enforcement. They ordered the poisoning of industrial alcohols manufactured in the United States, products regularly stolen by bootleggers and resold as drinkable spirits. The idea was to scare people into giving up illicit drinking. Instead, by the time Prohibition ended in 1933, the federal poisoning program, by some estimates, had killed at least 10,000 people.
Government was willing to indiscriminately kill people just to enforce the law. This isn’t like a police officer shooting a criminal in self defense. This would be akin to officers walking around and killing anybody they found who had consumed any alcohol.
And people wonder why us libertarians are proponents of small government. Hit the link and have a read it’s a rather interesting story.
Zombies Have Rights Now
Shit we’re really fucked people. I just learned from Dvorak Uncensored that my own country not only renewed the PATROIT Act but apparently gave zombies fucking rights. From the story:
The U.S. Court of Appeals on Wednesday released a ruling in favor of a group of zombies who say they were wrongfully arrested while protesting consumerism during the 2006 Aquatennial. The ruling reanimates the group’s federal lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis and its police, seeking damages of at least $50,000 for each person arrested.
First I don’t know at what point zombies gained the ability to communicate and bring up lawsuits. Second I don’t know why the fuck the police of Minneapolis are arresting zombies instead of shooting them in the head on sight.
We’re so screwed. If we can’t rekill the undead they will overwhelm us all. Also apparently the police in Minneapolis lack the proper training to deal with the zombie apocalypse.
Senate Traitors Extend PATROIT Act
Yeah it’s official. OK it was official before but now it’s REALLY official. The senate is made up by a bunch of traitors. The senate today voted to extend the expiring provisions of the civil liberties violation known as the PATRIOT Act. This pisses me right the fuck off.
I’m very open about saying everybody who voted in favor of the original PATRIOT Act should have been brought up on charges of treason and dealt with accordingly. The law shits all over civil liberties in this country and undoes the Bill of Rights in its entirety. But here is the icing on the cake:
With the law facing a sunset date of Feb. 28, the Senate opted to vote for the extension of three crucial provisions of the act rather than opening debate on a revised bipartisan plan passed by the Judiciary Committee in October that would have imposed stricter privacy safeguards.
That’s right they didn’t even open debates on this. Nope they just passed and said fuck the American people.
To top that all of the current administration is still blaming Bush for everything. If they want to keep playing that card maybe they should show how they’re different and repeal of the of the God damned shit that got passed under his administration.
Bastards.
Creation of a Police State Through Zero Tolerance
Pop quiz time everybody. What do you do when a 12 year-old girl draws some doodles on a desk?
a. Make her clean the graffiti off of the desk.
b. Give her detention after school.
c. Call the police and have her arrested.
If you answer ‘c’ to the above question you are qualified to be the principal at the Junior High School in Forest Hills, New York. That’s right a 12 year-old girl wrote, “I love my friends Abby and Faith. Lex was here 2/1/10 :)” on her desk with a marker. Shortly after the police were called and the girl was handcuffed and arrested.
This is another grand example of how zero tolerance policies work. You establish that there will be no tolerance for graffiti and if somebody doodles on a desk you call the police. Time and time again we are reminded that laws enforced without consideration of context does nothing more than create a police state where people expect to be arrested the second they do something that isn’t approved.
For an example outside of schools let’s say there is a zero tolerance policy put into place that states killing another human being is illegal. Of course this sounds OK on paper under you realize since no consideration is made for the event somebody who was legally defending themselves would be charged for murder. The linked story has a list of other abuses of zero tolerance as well as police involvement in things that should be handled by school administrators.
Today National Park Carry Becomes Law
Today is February 22nd which means you can now legally carry in national parks so long as you obey the carry laws of the park’s host state.
According to the gun control advocates this is the day that violence in national parks will sky rocket, blood will rain from the sky to fill the streets, everybody who enters a national park will be shot, and bears will become extinct as gun toting maniacs poach to their hearts’ content.
For those of us in the real world this is the day where nothing changes except those of us who carry don’t become criminals the second we talk into a national park. My prediction is nothing will change except for the fact some people who would have been mauled to death by a random wild animal will not survive.
Boy is He Strict
I’m just going to pull quotes from this story:
The violent confrontation unfolded after Mr Iavecchio, who was armed, asked the men to leave the bowling alley because they were smoking cigarettes in a vestibule. The security guard escorted the men outside, where the ensuing fight and shooting were captured on CCTV.
According to investigating police, words were exchanged and a fight ensued before two gunshots were discharged, striking both friends. The incident happened at 1.50am.
The lesson here? Don’t smoke in New York bowling allies. Of course expect the Violence Policy Center to add this one to their list:
Both victims were treated at the nearby Elmhurst hospital for their injuries. Mr Iavecchio was armed with a .380 calibre pistol, which he was licensed to carry. The two Irishmen are being charged with menacing.
It Appears As Though You Haven’t Thought Your Clever Plan Through
Here is a story implementing a really bad idea via Dvorak Uncensored. It appears as though police officers are going to stage break ins. Yes police officers are going to break into the homes of citizens to raise awareness of burglaries. I see all sorts of bad things coming from this. See people don’t take kindly to strange people breaking into their homes in the middle of the night. Often when a person encounters the stranger they decided to perforate that individuals with gun fire… oh wait this is happening in England. Yeah never mind, capital idea there Bobby.
Wait Until They Get A Load of Me
Rob Allen has an interesting story linked. Apparently police arrested a man because he had “20 weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition.” Shit I have more than that, I guess the police will be paying me a visit soon.
Are You A South Carolinan Planning to Overthrow the Government, Better Register
File this under the goofy category. Last year South Carolina passed the Subversive Activities Registration Act. On February 5th the clauses of those acts took effect. Now if you live in South Carolina and are planning on overthrowing the government you need to register… with the government. Oh and there is a $5.00 registration fee.
What I’ll get a kick out of is seeing the number of people on the registration list a year from now.
