South Australia Bans Anonymous Political Speech

Welcome the South Britain Australia. Feel free to go about your business but if you’re going to talk about any upcoming elections do note you cannot do so anonymously. South Australia just passed a law making anonymous political speech illegal unless you publish your legal name and post code. Media organizations also have to keep peoples’ names and address on file for six months or face a $5,000.00 fine.

Australia seems to be doing it’s best to become as hated in my book as Britain. They censor the Internet, claim women with small breast promote pedophilia, and now doesn’t allow the freedom of speech unless they government knows who you are. Of course all this shit started happening after the citizenry were effectively disarmed, but that could just be a coincidence.

Better Late Then Never I Guess

I just checked my inbox and got a reply from Senator Franken to an e-mail I sent him… seven months ago.

Seven fucking months! I guess it’s better to be late than never. Anyways it dealt with the Thune amendment I asked him to support. Here is his response:

Dear Christopher,

Thank you for contacting me about the Thune Amendment (S.A.1618) to the Department of Defense authorization bill. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue, and regret the delay in responding.

I strongly support a Minnesotan’s right to own a gun for collection, protection, and sport. In 2003, our Minnesota State Legislature worked hard to balance that right with the safety of all Minnesotans. When it passed the Minnesota Personal Protection Act, the Minnesota State Legislature strengthened the right of gun ownership in our state, but also expanded certain safety requirements. It did this through requiring live firearms training for those receiving permits. It also required background checks prior to the purchase of a firearm. This condition helps prevent perpetrators of domestic violence from getting handguns.

The Thune Amendment would have taken away our state’s right to decide what sort of standards would be enforced within its own borders. It would have allowed any person issued a permit from any state to enter Minnesota with a concealed firearm, regardless of whether he or she met our state’s mandated requirements. This would have undermined our state law and potentially jeopardized the safety of Minnesotans.

In voting against this amendment, I stood with the Minnesota Chief of Police Association, eight Minnesota Mayors, and numerous community groups. I firmly believe that when it comes to law enforcement and community safety, Minnesotans know what’s best for Minnesota.
Thank you again for contacting me, and please don’t hesitate to do so in the future regarding this or any other matter of concern to you.

In other words his no friend of gun owners.

Umm… What

This certainly falls under news that makes you go, “What the fuck?” Dvorak Uncensored posted a bizarre story that could only come from the Commonwealth. Australia is looking at banning porn with women having A cup breasts. From the article and no I’m not making this up:

Breasts came under the spotlight a year ago, as Senators Barnaby Joyce and Guy Barnett commenced a campaign against publicly available porn. Rounding up magazines from corner shops and filling stations, Senator Joyce claimed that publications featuring small-breasted women were encouraging paedophilia.

Hear that ladies? If you have small breasts you’re encouraging pedophilia! Obviously the next logical step here is to arrest and imprison all women who have A-cup sized breasts for distributing child pornography.

State of the Union

Yesterday was Wednesday meaning two things. The first is that it was the night of the weekly Liberty Hour where a group of friends and I get together and talk politics, economics, and everything else right-wing libertarian terrorists talk about. But last night was also the Obamessiah’s speech where he lied through his teeth talk about the previous year and the coming year.

What did I take away from it? Nothing good. First there was the Bush blame game which is really getting old at this point. Second there was the whole lie about how the bailouts saved the economy. And of course a constant slew of bullshit streaming from his mouth.

There were a few funny things. First Joe Biden apparently didn’t get the memo and started to clap before he was supposed to. Second the president of Haiti was there and appeared to be sleeping until Obama mentioned his country. Nancy Pelosi looked as scary as ever. And it was funny watching the Democrats stand and applause every two seconds while the Republicans only stood and applauded every 10 seconds. Sadly nobody gave the President the finger.

What did I take away from his speech? Well I reaffirmed that the government doesn’t like the citizens.

NRA Granted Divided Time in Chicago Case

Some news has appeared during my moving hiatus that I’m not very happy to hear. Via Snowflakes in Hell I found out the NRA was granted their divided time in the Chicago case in front of the Supreme Court.

Those of you unfamiliar with Supreme Court cases each side gets half an hour for their arguments. Within this half hour time space each side must also answer questions from the judges. This leaves little time for each side and losing 10 minutes, or 1/3, of the time to the NRA is going to really eat into Mr. Gura’s time.

I’m not happy with this outcome nor the NRA’s little ploy but I do understand their reasoning.

ATF Beating Up on Legal Gun Shows

Scary but expected news via Snowflakes in Hell. There is an excellent write up over at theGun Rights Examiner. From the article:

Darwin Boedeker is the Texas Gun Shows (TGS) promoter. In a phone interview, he said that last Thursday, January 14, there was a meeting with Austin PD (APD), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the building lessee (HEB) and Andrew Perkel of Austin Market Place, who subleases the building from HEB and supports TGS.

At the meeting, Boedeker said the APD read off a “long list” of nuisance violations to the HEB representative. When Boedeker told everybody that these activities happened while another promoter hosted the gun show at that location–TGS began hosting shows November 2009–nobody else knew this.

Boedeker claimed that ATF and APD “intimidated” HEB into instituting a requirement that only dealers with a Federal Firearms License (FFL) can sell guns. Boedeker said APD invited the HEB representative “knowing he would crack.” That left two choices: cancel last weekend’s show on one day’s notice, or abide by FFL rule. Boedeker said that attendance was “horrible” last weekend, with 50 empty vendor tables and low attendance. He also said that 90% of those complaining about the new rule thought TGS was to blame.

Yes the ATF used it’s weight in an attempt to force a Texas gun show to ban private sales at the event. I guess this adds further credence to the ironic statement, “It’s OK I’m with the government; I’m here to help.”

Scott Brown Wins Massachusetts Seat

Good news everybody Scott Brown win the seat for MAssachusetts senator. This means the minute man state managed to dump a murdering gun control nutcase and gain an NRA A rated senator. Things are looking up.

Furthermore the Democrats lost their ability to prevent a Republican filibuster meaning they won’t be able to simply slam the health care bill through without worry of resistance. I would just like to say yet again things are looking up.

Good work Massachusetts voters!

Update 2010-01-20 16:01: Corrected the use of the terminology filibuster.

ABC News “Discovers” “Secret Bible Code” on Military Equipment

Here is an interesting e-mail I just received. Apparently ABC News just “discovered” super secret Jesus Bible code on some of our military equipment. From the article:

Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the United States military by a Michigan company, an ABC News investigation has found.

The Michigan company, as you can guess, is Trijicon. Trijicon has been putting Bible verse references on their equipment from day one as far as I know. But of course according ABC News this is some great pushing of Christianity. Oh but this is classic:

“This is probably the best example of violation of the separation of church and state in this country,” said Weinstein. “It’s literally pushing fundamentalist Christianity at the point of a gun against the people that we’re fighting. We’re emboldening an enemy.”

I call bullshit.

This entire thing is stupid. First of all this isn’t some mysterious “Bible code” it’s printed in plain sight. It’s always been there and Trijicon has never been shy about it. Second I doubt any enemy combatants can see that tiny print while they’re being shot at and hence aren’t going to know they were shot by a “Jesus gun.” Those of us big into guns have known about this for a long time meanwhile ABC News reports this as if they discovered it and it’s some kind of grand conspiracy.

Don’t like the fact that Bible versus are printed on your optic equipment? Here are two options. First file it off. Second buy something else. I understand military personnel generally don’t have a choice in the equipment they are issued but for us private citizens it’s a right we enjoy, voting with our dollar. If you’re in the military and it offends you so dearly that your equipment has a Bible verse printed on it realize you probably have other equipment with similar “secret” markings.

This isn’t a separation of church and state issue. This is an issue of a private company making a product. It’s not military officials making soldiers pray to a Christian god, or forcing soldiers to carry a copy of the Catholic Bible. It’s some markings on a gun put there by the manufacturer because the founder believes in Christianity. Quite a few companies do things like this.

F.Y.I. For Carry Permit Holders in Ramsey County

It appears that sheriff Bob Fletch of Ramsey County is rummaging through carry permit holder data to mine out addresses. He sent invitations to those in the country with carry permits for a fund raiser he was throwing. This potentially violates the law and certainly violates the trust of privacy between carry permit holders and the Ramsey Country Sheriff’s Office. Anyways the news bullitin is here.

I’m not sure if this is an actual violation of the law as I’m not very good at reading legalese but it certainly is a violation of confidentiality you expect from a sheriff’s office. If you’re a carry permit holder in Ramsey County and you received the invitation you should do some complaining.
