SAF Sues Massachusetts Over Their Gun Ban for Legal Alien Residents

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has quickly risen to being my favorite gun rights organization. Although they don’t have nearly as much money as the National Rifle Association (NRA) I feel SAF is better utilizing what they have by suing government entities that try to bar second amendment rights from people in the United States.

Their latest lawsuit is against Massachusetts. SAF is none to happy with the state’s law that prohibits legal alien residents from owning firearms:

The lawsuit alleges that Christopher M. Fletcher of Cambridge and Eoin M. Pryal of Northboro – both legal resident aliens – have been specifically denied the ability to obtain a Firearms Identification Card or a License to Carry of any kind. Before moving to Massachusetts, Fletcher lived in California, where he had a Basic Firearms Safety certificate and Handgun Safety certificate, which allowed him to purchase and own firearms including handguns. Pryal, who is married to a citizen of this country, and had a shotgun certificate and international dealer’s license while living in the United Kingdom.

SAF is really good at playing it smart with these lawsuits. They manage to find the best people who have been wronged by the government but have a background that makes it hard to argue said persons should be barred the right to bear arms.

It seems SAF really wants me to donate more money as they keep doing awesome things like this. Well I’m more than happy to oblige them.

My Investments Are Doing Well

It seems my investments are doing well:

In Hong Kong trade, gold hit a record $1,500.70 an ounce, which traders said was mainly due to Standard & Poor’s downgrade of its outlook on US debt.

Silver also touched a 31-year high of $44.34 an ounce.

When a country’s economy starts circling the toilet it’s common for those living in that country to seek an investment they can use to preserve their purchasing power. Sometimes this causes people to convert more of their wealth to another country’s money (for instance people in Zimbabwe moved to relying heavily on dollars and euros now that their country’s money is worthless). Another place to put money is in commodities.

Traditionally precious metals have done well in times of economic uncertainty. As uncertainty in fiat money increases the desire to place wealth into traditionally safe commodities increases. I’ve been investing in precious metals (mostly silver) for a while and have made pretty good bang on it. Well it would be more accurate to say it appears as though I’ve made pretty good bang on it but in truth I’ve mostly offset the effects of inflation and thus preserved my previous purchasing power.

With all that said it is likely that there will be a correction soon where the price of these metals will dip down. This is usually the smart time to buy because the prices will then continue to climb again. This is the trend that’s been going on for years at this point and will likely continue while the devaluation of the dollar continues.

Oh, and I was investing in precious metals way before Glenn Beck came on the air so don’t both accusing me of following him. I never even watched his shitty show.

Green as in Money

Yesterday I had the oil changed on my truck. I usually got to one of the Valvoline instant oil change places because then I can do it over lunch and as I live in an apartment complex I have no place to dispose of old oil thus it’s a pain in the ass to do it myself.

While they were changing my oil they did the usual attempt to up sell me on the synthetic oil. As usual I turned them down but then they tried to sell me on Valvoline’s new link of “green” oil. I shit you not, it was oil labeled as being more environmentally friendly and game in a green bottle. The guy claimed it had the same properties as regular oil and only cost $5.00 more. I politely informed him that I derive some pleasure off of irritating greenies and thus I’d stick with the non-green oil.

Either way I learned that greenies will pay extra for anything “green.” That’s great as the greenies get more green and the company making these “green” products get more green (money). Well I decided to look into this fancy new “green” oil and have come to the conclusion the “green” oil is actually recycled oil. I can tell you I’m already not a fan. Instead of putting new oil into my engine they’re trying to put reprocessed previously used motor oil into my engine… and they’re charing you more for the privilege! It’s a great little scam and I must applaud Valvoline’s marketing department for something up with such a great way to exploit environmental concern.

Watch the Anti-Gunners Complain About This

I’ve mentioned before about the rabidness of many anti-gunner’s zealous hatred of guns that lead to them being pissed off at DPMS and Smith and Wesson for donating money to the Cancer Research Center. I also made fun of one anti-gunner’s arguments because I’m an asshole like that. Now The Firearm Blog as brought up the fact that Federal has released pink shotgun shells. A portion of the proceeds from these shells are going donated to the cause of finding a cure for breast cancer.

So anti-gunners, are you readying your complains yet? Feel free to step up to the plate and explain why donating the cancer research is good unless gun companies do it.

Washington Legalizes Suppressors

Man, even people living in Washington state can be courteous of their neighbors and use suppressors. House Bill 1016 was officially signed into law which legalized the use of suppressors within the state and put Washington one step ahead of Minnesota in that regard. The following paragraph sums up why suppressors should not only be legal in every state but should also be removed for the list of firearms and firearm accessories that are regulated by the National Firearms Act:

Anyone who has ever fired a gun knows that gunfire is loud. It can cause immediate and permanent hearing loss. While suppressors do not eliminate the sound of a firearm, they do reduce the muzzle report of the gun much in the same way that a muffler reduces exhaust noise from a car or truck. There are many benefits to suppressors: they can increase accuracy, they make shooting more enjoyable by lessening felt recoil and reducing muzzle blast, they protect shooters’ hearing, and they help to reduce noise complaints from neighbors.

If you live near a gun range and find the noise annoying you should be advocating for the legalization of suppressors. I would love to see this happen here but alas I think it may be a while.

Suppressed Ranch Hand

File this under things that are bad ass. Yes that is nothing less than a Rossi Ranch Hand (you know that really short lever-action rifle that’s legally a pistol) with an attached suppressor. Why would somebody do this? Why wouldn’t somebody do it is my question (unless they live in Minnesota then I know why they wouldn’t do it, stupid law banning suppressors)!

Doom Played on E-Ink

Doom is the game that has been ported to everything on the planet and some things not on this planet. Well it seems there was no port of Doom on an E-Ink based device but thankfully that has changed. Yeah it plays kind of crappy but it’s still pretty cool considering how slow of refresh rates most E-Ink displays still have. Here’s a video of the game in action:

SAF Going After Bloomberg

Have I mentioned today how much I love the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF)? No? Well I just want to state that I love SAF. At the moment they are the organization that’s willing to go around and start shit which has lead to an expansion of the right to keep and bear arms. It looks like their next taget is going to be Bloomberg as SAF is going after New York City’s handgun permit fees:

The Second Amendment Foundation today filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg that alleges New York City’s $340 fee for a permit to keep a handgun in the home is “excessive and … impermissibly burdens the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”

SAF is joined in the lawsuit by the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association and five individual New York City residents. Also named as a defendant in the lawsuit is New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

“Under state law,” said SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb, “the maximum fee for issuing a New York State handgun license is $10, but the law exempts citizens living in New York City. That exemption allows the city to charge an exorbitant fee for the license, which discourages city residents from exercising their civil rights while violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”

This is looking to be a great lawsuit. Requiring a fee to own a firearm regardless is sickening but when the fee is set high enough to ensure poor people can’t exercise their right the fee becomes dangerous those individuals. Of course King Bloomberg likely doesn’t want the serfs in his city to have a means of defending themselves. It’s nice to see SAF doesn’t share that sentiment.

Also it looks like it’s time to send SAF some more money. I do enjoy paying an organization for good work.
