Wow some people just have to prove a point. Thanks to a story found via Walls of the City I’ve learned that some people like to do it wrong in regards to carry permits.
Hit the link for the full story but suffice to say some kids got their carry permits and decided to go “fishing for robber.” Yes they are going out and actively looking for trouble. Fucking morons. The idea of carrying a gun usually revolves around the idea you do it to protect yourself. That’s good everybody should be willing to fight for their life. Of course the biggest thing to remember is if you don’t get into trouble you don’t need to defend yourself. Hence the best way to stay alive it to actively AVOID trying to get into a situation where your life would be in jeopardy.
You can’t always control when you’ll be in a bad situation, but walking around “fishing for robbers” is a great way to get yourself into a bad situation. Should they ever use their firearms in self defense the prosecution is going to have a field day ripping them apart.
Wow some people are fucking idiots. I present exhibit one here. I’m not going to say anything until you read this:
Timothy William Pollard, 37, and friend Robert Knorr, 28, were playing with the gun Sunday night after a full day of drinking. Pollard had about six beers, a couple shots at a bar and then another beer at home.
I bet you can guess where this is going:
Pollard had taken the handgun and pointed it at Knorr. Pollard told police he thought the safety was on as he pulled the trigger once and it just clicked, the Greeley Tribune reported. So he pulled the trigger again, shooting Knorr.
This should bring a couple points to bear. First booze and guns are not good bed fellows. If you want to drink leave the gun, if you want to carry the gun don’t drink (and before somebody says something this has nothing to do with being able to carry guns in places that serve booze, you should be allowed to do that so long as you don’t drink). The second point is you never, EVER, point a firearm at another individual unless it’s in self defense. The gun is always loaded, plain and simple (somebody is going to quote Gabe Suarez’s remark about two people verifying it’s empty, I don’t care the only safe bet is not to cover another person with your barrel ever).
And to top it all off these clowns are from my state.
OK this story via Says Uncle is funny (since nobody was hurt). A drunken off duty police officer, Eric Janik, went to a haunted house. It was great fun and all but after they exited one of the workers came running out with a chainsaw as was his part there. The worked wanted to give them one last scare, instead he ended up looking down the barrel of officer Janik’s service gun.
Mr. Janik is being charged with assault since not only did his wield his service gun at a person while intoxicated, he also tried to deny it. Either way I think the haunted house worker was the one who ended up with the real scare.
Snowflakes in Hell points out Michigan senator Carl Levin knows how to use talking points. The senator sent a letter to the president titled, “Guns Hurt Our Children The Most.” It’s full of such great arguments as:
Mr. President, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 3,184 children and teens died from a firearm in the United States in 2006, a six percent increase from 2005. This breaks down to the life of an American child being taken every two hours and 45 minutes by someone wielding a gun. More than five times as many, or nearly 17,500 children and teens suffered a non-fatal gun injury that year, a seven percent increase from the previous year.
Senator Levin’s solution? It’s this:
They also recommend passage of such common sense gun safety legislation as closing the gun show loophole, strengthening the Brady background check system and reauthorizing the assault weapons ban.
I highly doubt senator Levin knows what the gun show “loophole” actually is. It’s no a loophole at all but a fact of constitutional law that states congress can only regulate interstate commerce and dealings with foreign countries. If two people in the same state make a transaction congress can’t do shit about it.
Likewise how can you strengthen the Brady background check? The system can already single handedly deny a person their right to bear arms. How can you get much stronger? Allow a denial from a background check to land somebody in prison? Seriously I wish representatives would think before they talk.
Finally what the Hell is banning “assault” weapons going to accomplish? Most murders and accidents are done with handguns not long arms. You would think that anti-gunners would be going after handguns instead. And this is one of their fatal flaws they don’t use logic in their crusade against our rights and the truth.
So recently an amendment to Amtrak’s appropriation bill states that they will lose a huge chunk of money unless they allow passengers to transport firearms on board in a manner similar to airliners. Great idea! Ever since 9/11 Amtrak has had a zero guns in any form policy on their trains. Well now Amtrak is crying that they can’t meet the deadline for this policy change:
Amtrak and its defenders in Congress have argued that the government-owned train company needs more time and resources before it could allow firearms onto trains.
“We don’t think we’ll be able to do that March 31 deadline, and, of course, finding the funding to make all of that happening,” said Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm. Failing to meet that deadline and missing out $1.5 billion in appropriated funds, its entire funding request for 2010, would bring a “cessation of train service nationwide,” Amtrak Chairman Thomas Carper wrote to appropriators last month.
So they are saying they can’t meet the deadline to do something they used to do before 9/11? Really? It seems to me they just have to do the exact same thing they used to and nothing else will need to change.
OK I know I nitpick on things, especially things I’m semi-knowledgable in. But I saw this link on the BBC today and instantly rolled my eyes:
The link leads to this article about an aquatic reptile fossil being discovered. So what’s wrong with this? Well none of the aquatic reptiles were dinosaurs nor even close. Yes I have an interest in paleontology so this really is nothing more than me expressing a pet peeve of mine, inaccuracy.
Breda has a story that reflects the sad state of intelligence in this country. The story states:

Do you see what’s wrong with this? Obviously the assailant was mentally disturbed. Everybody knows you don’t PUNCH a fucking zombie. You want to keep your body as far away from their mouths as possible.

I was reading through the commend on a post over at Dvorak Uncensored and read what is possible the most retarded argument agains the right to bear arms I’ve yet seen. User Theone has this to say:
Lol, I don’t own arms because unlike many morons out there I’m a good shot. I’ve competed in many ROTC in my younger years to know I can pick people off easily. I also know I had a bad temper and can get insane. That is why I’m against arms…people are insane.
Seriously, give me a rifle and I can toss that thing high in the air and without looking at it grab it and shoot you down in seconds, between your head. Now do you want some crazy like me to own a gun or knowing that I made the right choice not to own any?

Wow what an idiot. He’s saying since he’s a good shot (which I doubt reading his post) and has anger management problems people shouldn’t have guns? Also another thing I noticed is the fact he brags up how good of a shot he is. Apparently he has magical powers as he can toss a rifle in the air, catch it, and without even looking nail you square between the eyes. 99% (I’d say 100% but there may be an exception somewhere) of the time somebody makes a bragging statement like that they’re lying.
Anybody competent with a rifle knows a simple fact, you can’t accurately shoot a rifle, or any gun, without looking. You need to see the target in relation to you in order to put a round in them. What this guy is probably saying is he’s a prohibited person due to a domestic violence case and since he can’t have guns nobody should be allowed to. Don’t get me wrong after reading that I’m glad he doesn’t have guns, he seems far too stupid to be responsible enough.
In the post I made previewing the Barnes and Nobel Nook eReader device I mentioned the lending feature. Well it appears the lending feature is completely gimped.
Well it appears each title you have can only be loaned out once and only for 14 days. Note that the wording seems to imply you can loan a title once period, not once per person. The other strike against this feature is a book can only be loaned out if the published allows this behavior. I can officially strike that feature off as something cool.
