1911 Shaped Bruise

Being yesterday was 1/9/11 I decided it would be a good idea to carry my 1911. On this day a group of friends and I decided to go ice skating. I take my carrying a little too far I guess because I was carrying my 1911 while ice skating. Due to a fall I had I now have a bruise on my side that looks very much like a 1911.

Pro-tip, carrying while ice skating can be pretty painful.

Arizona Shooting

Crazy things certainly do happen on weekends. I’m sure everybody has already heard about the tragic shooting in Arizona that six people dead and one congresswoman in critical condition. This is yet another case of crazy people being crazy.

Of course as with any act of violence people want somebody to blame. Jared Loughner was arrested and will be appearing in court for the shooting but most people seem to want to plan the tea party movement instead. The thing in we don’t know Loughner’s political beliefs and in most case like these the shooter has held beliefs on both sides of the political spectrum.

The other thing that many people seemed curious about is how this could happen in a state with constitutional carry. There are two simple explanations for this; nobody there was carrying or those who were carrying decided take shots at somebody while they were in a crowd. I haven’t seen pictures of the gathered crowd but discharging a firearm in a crowd of any size is dangerous. Of course so is letting a guy on a rampage continue is killings but it comes down to the fact shooting into a crowd could cause you to hit an innocent person and thus is a very sticky proposition at best. In these situations the best option is to get the Hell out of dodge.

Rail Mounted Cameras

Have you ever taken a trip to the range, shot extremely well, and taken the target home only for people to say you cheated and punched holes through the paper manually? Have you ever ran an awesome USPSA match and wished you had a recording? Well now you can verify your awesome shooting in any way via the wonderful world of rail mounts video cameras!

Personally I’ll keep them off of my rifle to save the embarrassment of my poor shooting.

Also that’s a pretty sly way to turn a little piece of the Consumer Electronic Show into a gun show. Kudos to Contour the manufactures of the rail mounted camera.

The Mexican Gun Canard… The Revenge 2

Between the anti-gunners whining and the ATF’s attempt to nab even more power this whole Mexican gun canard is getting out of hand. Anybody with half of a brain knows that Mexico’s drug cartels are obtaining their automatic rifles and grenades from somebody else as us lowly civilians can’t own such devices in this country.

Likewise all the laws the anti-gunners are clamoring for will only make life difficult on us regular citizens. What can be done when law enforcement personnel are the ones smuggling the guns?

Jesus A. Longoria, 31, of Brownsville, Texas, has been a Cameron County sheriff’s deputy since March 2006. On Dec. 17, before U.S. District Court Hilda G. Tagle, he pleaded guilty to the federal felony charge. He admitted that on May 5, 2010, while assigned to the Veterans’ and Gateway Ports of Entry to prevent stolen vehicles from leaving the United States, he attempted to send and export 13 semi-automatic firearms from the U.S. into Mexico.

Answer me this anti-gunners, how are all these laws making it more difficult for regular citizens to purchase firearms going to prevent government employees from smuggling firearms? In case you have problems with reading comprehension I’ll answer the question for you, they won’t.

Wait… What

This has to be one of the biggest what in the fucking fuck moments in history:

Queensland police have appealed for public assistance in finding 10 handguns stolen from a Brisbane gun club.

They have recovered 14 of 24 guns stolen at gunpoint from the Sporting Shooters Association’s Belmont club at 6.35am (AEST) last Thursday.

Apparently in Australia a two man team with a single rifle between them can rob a gun range. I’m imagining how this would go down at any gun range I’ve been to in the United States… yeah I can’t see this going down the same here. The main difference I see is there being one dead thug, another thug with wet pants, and every gun stored at the range still safely locked in their safes.

Seriously how to you rob a gun range and walk away without any additional holes in your person? I’m completely baffled by this.

Is Gun Blogging Getting Harder

Sebastian over at Snowflakes in Hell has an interesting post talking about gun blogging becoming more difficult. I’ve noticed this as well which is why there hasn’t been as many gun related topics as of late. Sebastian credits this to the wins we’ve scored as of late but I’m attributing it to a general lull in gun related things. No field of interest has interesting things happening, they usually have burst of interesting things followed by times of nothing happening. Currently there is no good or bad related firearms legislation on the table, no amazing new firearms are being presented or released, and for those of us up in the frozen tundra shooting competition season is over for the year.

When I started this blog my main focus was on firearms but I left it open for posting about other things. Needless to say with the lull in firearms related news I’ve been posting more about world news and technology.

Worry not though because whenever something interesting happens in the world of firearms or gun rights (and I hear about it) it will get posted here. The lull will eventually be over and there will be a glut of gun related things to write about again. At that point us gun bloggers will be finding it difficult to set aside time to write about it all.

And the Award for Biggest Bad Ass of the Year Goes To

Imagine you’re a rancher in Mexico who’s land is coveted by the local drug lords. Now imagine those very thugs came do your ranch and gave you 24 hours to vacate. What would you do? If you answered by saying you’d leave the property then you’re not nearly awesome enough to even continue reading this post. If you answered that you’d setup weapons at your windows and take down as many of those fucks as you could then you’ be Alejo Garza Tamez, a complete and total bad ass:

He defended his home like it was the Alamo.

A 77-year-old rancher gave drug-cartel thugs the fight of their lives when they tried to take possession of his sprawling property in northern Mexico, becoming a folk hero in a region ravaged by violence.

Alejo Garza Tamez turned his humble farmhouse into a fortress for his last stand — lining up his numerous hunting rifles in windows and doorways — after receiving an ultimatum on Nov. 13 from the drug-gang guerrillas to vacate within 24 hours or die.

The lionhearted rancher was ready when two truckloads of heavily armed gang members returned the next morning.

Obviously this was a man not to be fucked with. Hell the only way those thugs were able to finally end the firefight was to lob grenades into his home:

He shot so fast and furiously that the confused cartel assumed there were several people inside. Dropping their assault rifles, the thugs lobbed hand grenades into the ranch house until the shooting stopped.

When the Mexican army finally showed up after the gunfight, they found four dead and two injured gang members piled in a heap outside the shelled, bullet-pocked farmhouse.

Inside, amid a pile of rubble, was the lifeless, bullet-riddled Garza, two weapons at his side.

It’s also nice to see that the Mexican army will eventually show up… after all the shooting has concluded of course. It’s sad to see a man as bad ass as Mr. Tamez go but by God he went down in a blaze of glory. Do not give into evil would be the best phrase here.
